I have been very interested in learning about the Power Saving devices from PMC eco Supply. In doing so I find some websites that do not like them and state that they do not work.
Well, good for them. I say that they work as I have one and it does work. I now know several others who have the power miser devices installed and they also notice savings on electric.
Oh, and our government suggests correcting power factor too!

Fixie Chick & Power Factor Correction Devices

The Fixie Chick had a power factor correction device installed in her home. We watched the electric usage each billing cycle. We found that the unit made about a 10% savings on the first month and surprisingly a 23% savings on the 2nd month.
We do understand that the weather can make a difference so we also noted the degree days on each month. For the past 3 months the degree days have been running about 23 degrees to 29 degrees Farenheit. So, our last reading was an actual huge savings. The item cost was $365.00 dollars installed. Since becoming a distributor for our power factor correction devices, we have had great success in selling the units locally in the NY area.

It appears that bed bugs are becoming and epidemic of sorts in our country.  I have seen reports on the news and morning shows regarding bed bugs and how to get rid of them.  This brings me to writing this blog article in the hopes I can help you get rid of bed bugs naturally.

So what are bed bugs, anyway? Everyone has heard of them. They’re essentially little bugs that are nocturnal and feed off human blood. There are actually a lot of different kinds, including some that feed off certain types of animals like chickens, but the ones most people are worried about live mainly off humans. They usually live inside of mattresses, where they have convenient access to a food source – you. They crawl out just before dawn and bite you, sucking out blood for about five minutes. You don’t feel anything until after the bed bug is already safely back in its home.  Now this sounds nice, doesn’t it? 

Now, how do you know if you have bed bugs?  It can be difficult to tell if you have bed bugs or not because they are somewhat small and only come out of hiding for short periods of time.  You can see some tell tale signs that you have bed bugs by looking for waste that the bed bugs create.  They create a lot of waste. Look for dark spots on your mattress, linens and box springs.  Another way is if you or a family member have bites.  Small red spots on the skin which you cannot explain how they got there.  You will be hard pressed seeing the bed bugs actually feeding on you as they are quick and clever.  Bed bugs hide in some cozy spots which are simple to look for them in.  They usually hide in the folds of the sheets, creases in the mattress and around it, in the curtains and sometimes nearby furniture.  Just look for the dark spots of the bed bug’s waste.

If you find that you have bed bugs, here are some natural ways of getting them out of your home:

Vacuuming.  Vacuuming your home is one of the main things you should do if you have bed bugs.  Just know that you cannot get rid of bed bugs by just vacuuming around the house.

Steam Cleaning.  Unlike vacuuming, steam cleaning is generally very effective at killing any bed bugs or eggs that come into contact  with it. Extreme heat will kill them quickly (anything over 120 degrees Fahrenheit or so), and most steamers will exceed this temperature.  You will want to make sure you cover all the areas they could be hiding, even inaccessible ones. If you hire a pest control company, sometimes they will use steam cleaners in addition to applying pesticides. You should also strongly consider going with what is called “dry steam” – low moisture steamers, which have a lot less risk of mold (a big potential problem given that you will be using it around your bed).

There are some major downsides, though: First of all, it is of questionable value when applied to the mattress itself, which can absorb the moisture from the steam very quickly and keep it from actually coming into contact with the bed bugs. Second, the temperature is often not high enough to kill them outside of a small area right where the steam comes out. If you can’t wedge the head in close enough in small cracks or crevices, it may not kill them all. Third, some items may be damaged by applying steam to them (especially wooden furniture). Fourth, and most important, it is very hard for you to get ALL the bedbugs this way. If you even miss a few, or miss a couple of eggs, you still have an infestation. They’ll still be biting you, and get right back to breeding again when you’re done. As such, this could be a good supplement for professional pest control, and a very good way to make sure you can keep a lot of your property that can be steam cleaned instead of thrown out, but not a great way as the sole response to a bug problem.

Has anyone ever considered using a rain barrel to collect rain water to reuse?
I have purchased a great rain barrel that I placed at the back of my house, behind the garage. This is just another idea to help save our planet and save money at the same time. The rain water can be reused anytime to water the lawn, or water outdoor and indoor plants. The rain water can be used to wash off decks and patios, also patio furniture. The rain water can be used to even wash your dog. Whatever you can imagine a use for, go for it. I think it is a great idea to have one of these items. And just think, it is reducing your water bill without even trying.

The rain barrel is made out of a lightweight poly. It holds 55 gallons of rainwater. It has a hose connection and two spigots. Very handy item.

Just another Green Product suggestion by the Fixie Chick

Since we are all about going green, why not grow your own green? Yes, wheatgrass. I have been growing wheatgrass for about a year and half. It did not hit me until now that I should blog about my personal experience with the benefits of wheatgrass.

We are all collectively trying to go green now to save our planet, save energy and to save money. Well, what about growing your own wheatgrass to save your life? I don’t want to imply that I have proof that it will save a life but let me explain what happened in the past year:

I had been harvesting my own wheatgrass and juicing it almost daily for a few months. Remember, I did all the research on wheatgrass to find that it was wonderful for the body to take in . I learned about all the potential health benefits that it could provide so I decided to grow a small crop of wheatgrass and harvest it every few days then juice the wheatgrass. So, after a few months of doing so, a friend informed me that he had an accelerated form of cancer. The doctors told him he did not have long to live, maybe a year. I suggested for the heck of it to try drinking juiced wheatgrass daily. This friend said he had nothing to loose by doing so and tried it. He then made it his routine to stop by my house every few days for the next 8 months or so. During this time my friend was undergoing some serious radiation at the hospital frequently. He was struggling with it and did not look good.

I swear, after about 8 or 9 months the cancer was gone! I am telling you the truth as I sit here and write this. My friend does not have a bit of cancer at all now. I am not paid to promote anything here, this is just my personal experience. Did it have to do with the wheatgrass? Was it simply a miracle? Or did the radiation treatments cure him within a year? Who knows, but I have my own beliefs on it. I would suggest if you would like to try your own green thumb out and grow some wheatgrass here is a starter kit I would recommend which is very reasonable and has everything to get you started.
