Power Saving Technology Has Gone To A New Level

Power Miser software interface

I have been one of the first to test a “state of the art”, new technology. It is called an automatically controlled Power Miser by PMC eco Supply, LLC.

This product installs in a home or small business to cut the electric consumption of the home or building. It typically saves about 10 to 25 percent. The Power Miser is best installed by an electrician. The Power Miser is made of capacitors which are computer controlled to automatically adjust to the load in the building at any given time. They actually turn off when there is nothing running in the home.

We have tested one with great results. The best part is that the Power Miser comes with software and Bluetooth ready to send the live data of the electrical system right to your computer! There is no other technology like this on the market. The retail price is $1400.00 but for saving money and monitoring your home, we think that is a great product. I would suggest contacting http://www.pmcecosupply.com and getting on the list to order one of these. The new Power Miser is on back order due to the demand. There is about a 3 week turn around to getting the product.

We love when a local Rochester, NY company has a great new innovative product.

Want to Save a Tree for Christmas This Year?

Thursday, December 9th, 2010

Why not put a Kindle under the tree for that special person in your life.  A Kindle will save another tree or possibly many trees from being killed this holiday season.  By using a Kindle less books will need to be printed.  I love my Kindle.  I use it all the time.  I did not realize how handy using a Kindle would be until I purchased one of my own.  The hottest selling item this year is the Kindle, why not join the club and enjoy a Kindle of your own?

Here is where I purchased my Kindle:

Have You Ever Used Folding Recycling Bags?

Friday, July 30th, 2010

How about this for a great idea: Folding Recycling Bags which are color coded for three different recyclables. Paper, glass and cans. I love using these when I have a party at my home or when I have a charity event or organize. The recycling bags are easy to store, easy to use and all around handy for a large group of people. These bags will make your life much easier when you do not have to sort through a bunch of garbage to get the recyclable items out.

The great features the recycling bags have are:
Velcro tabs keep bags in a row
Industrial-strength, waterproof plastic-coated bags
Uses color and graphic labels to keep recyclables separate
Set of 3 bags.
Paper (orange), cans (gray), or glass (blue)
To get a set of your own recycling bags see the link below.

Emergency Radio – Solar or Crank to Power!

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

I searched for a while for a portable radio for an emergency if the power went out to have around our home. I found a few options available. Then I came across an emergency radio which is powered by solar or by a crank. Yes, you read that right! I was very excited when this item arrived. It works great. I love how the emergency radio can run on solar power or by cranking it. I use it outside on my patio when I want to relax in the sun. It is nice that I am also living a greener life by not using batteries or electricity. This item is a hit with me.
It is just another idea to save our planet and save money.
Below is the link the same type of emergency radio that I have. Hope this makes your searching easier.

Perfectly Healthy Cleaning with Steam

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

I am sure all of you have seen part or all of the steam cleaner infomercials on TV. I know what you were thinking when you watched. Is that true? Does it really clean without cleaners or chemicals?
Well, yes it does to put it simply. I purchased a steam mop during the holidays. All I had to do is fill the small tank with tap water and plug it in. To my surprise it started to generate steam very quickly, within a minute. I mopped the tile floors in my home with the steam mop quite easily. The mop has a cloth attached to it to pick up any dirt or spills as it steams. It worked perfectly. There was nothing left on the floor! Not even the light film that you get when you use a regular mop with floor cleaners. I love the new gadget!
This is the perfect way to clean around your home by saving money on cleaners over time and not using those toxins that can harm children and pets.
Here is one that I would recommend.

One Green Thing

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Reduce your carbon footprint. Here is One Green Thing for each room of your house.

by Brenna Hartmann, the Fixie Chick

Attic: Insulate with cotton.

Cotton insulation is made from 100% recycled material and natural fibers. Most is made from Denim manufacturing trimmings that are usually dumped in landfills. No Formaldehyde or other chemical irritants are required for manufacturing.

Bedroom: Use natural fiber bedding and pillows.

Look for PBDE-free bedding choices like mattresses wrapped in wool, which is naturally fire-retardant. To support the environment as well as your health, go with organic cotton that has been cultivated without polluting pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. Check labels to make sure that bedding is also produced without bleaching or stain- or water-resistant “finishing” (a process that uses offgassing chemicals such as formaldehyde). Undyed linens are free of the heavy metals found in conventional fabric dyes.

Bathroom: Low-Flow fixtures

By replacing the hardware on your shower with a low-flow showerhead, you can save over 20,000 gallons of water a year.

Kitchen: Eco friendly cookware

Non-stick, coated pans heated above 680 degrees release toxic fumes such as the animal carcinogen tetrafluoroethylene. Beyond this, the manufacturing process of Teflon and other nonstick coatings releases perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), which, according to an EPA advisory panel, is a likely human carcinogen. Stainless steel, cast iron and enameled alternatives are widely available, more durable and usually preferred by chefs.

Laundry Room: Alternative Energy

With natural resources diminishing and fuel prices sky-rocketing, what is better for your wallet and our environment than free clothes drying by mother nature? A collapsible wooden clothes-drying rack will save you money and gas or electricity.

Living Room: Use Odor-less, solvent-free, organic paints

Conventional gloss paints and emulsion paints contain solvents which can cause irritation and serious health problems and are difficult to dispose of. Switch to Eco-friendly paint for all of your home projects. It’s better for the earth and it’s better for you.

Playroom: Choose Environmental Floor Coverings

The Impacts of a carpet roll’s lifecycle include chemical emissions from manufacturing, depletion of natural resources like petroleum, transportation, indoor air quality, and disposal costs at landfills and recycling operations. Carpet tiles reduce these impacts and contribute to positive indoor air quality too.
Home Office: Power Down

Use a power strip for all of your office electronics. Turn the power strip off when not in use.

Lawn & Garden: Chemical Free

Use easy to find non-toxic, organic, recycled fertilizers and pesticides.

Whole House:

Use bag-free vacuum cleaners, use home-made cleaning supplies (see recipe) and change your furnace filter each month.

Home-brewed disinfectant:

Borax has long been recognized for its disinfectant and deodorizing properties. Mix a half-cup of borax with 1 gallon hot water. Add a few sprigs of fresh thyme, rosemary or lavender. Steep for 10 minutes, strain and cool. Recycle a plastic spray bottle to store.

Blue-Green Insulation

Monday, November 16th, 2009

by Brenna Hartmann, the Fixie Chick

It’s March and I can’t help but think green.  Well in this case I’m thinking green with something blue…blue Jeans, that is.

With the rapid growth in eco-friendly green building, America’s best dressed walls are getting stuffed with recycled-denim insulation. Yes, that’s right; this popular insulation is made with scraps left over from manufacturing blue jeans.  The scraps would have otherwise landed up in the dump. Not only is it helping to save the environment, it’s healthier than fiberglass insulation, and doesn’t contain formaldehyde or other harmful chemical irritants.

Furthermore, the insulation itself is completely recyclable! This insulation does not itch and is very easy to handle and work with without the need for air-purifying respiratory gear or protective clothing.  The manufacturing technology boasts its noise reduction qualities, and that it is fire and pest resistant and impedes the growth of fungus and mold.

Last June, Bonded Logic, a manufacturer of denim insulation, and Polo volunteers installed UltraTouch denim insulation that was collected through Polo’s “Give Your Jeans a New Home” initiative. This program collected used jeans from celebrities and students alike, covering college campuses throughout the northeast.  Bonded Logic  donated their services to manufacture this material into UltraTouch insulation for use in Habitat for Humanity projects in New York as well as the Hurricane afflicted Gulf Coast.

The Denim Drive, collected almost 20,000 pairs of jeans which was converted into nearly 80,000 ft of UltraTouch denim insulation and used in the rehabilitation of a historic 19th century building located in the Bronx, NY. This project was collaboration between Bonded Logic Inc, The Polo Ralph Lauren Foundation’s G.I.V.E campaign, and Habitat for Humanity NYC.

Polo Jeans Co. Ralph Lauren is on a mission to inspire everyone to give their old jeans a new home. Watch for Blue Jean Donation Drop Off Centers Coming Soon!
